Posting An Article/Movie
MoviesFolks, we needed to remind uploaders/posters regarding a few things to keep an eye on when you post an article/movie. There's several little errors...things that are being incorrectly done by some when posting, and it's taking time (not too much...but a little) to correct the errors. Among which are:

1. SEARCHING/DUPLICATES - Search the site using the search link on the left to see whether a movie has already been posted here. If it does already exist on the site...don't make a duplicate post. Best way to search is using the IMDB number, such as tt0462703 instead of the movie title, leaving out the tt and searching the message instead of the title. Sometimes a title won't turn up here if there is an apostrophe in a word...like "Don't". Try searching such a title with all the other words not containing such a punctuation mark, or best yet, using the IMDB number without the tt in the number.
Duplicate posts will be deleted if there was already an existing article post, and working links added to the existing post based on whichever article was posted earliest ("housecleaning" is in the process of being done). Feel free to post your additional links as a comment to what is already up on the site, unless there is something radically different about your intended post or links (such as a different category: DVD rip vs. DVD-R, different format category such as Blu-ray rip, etc.).
You can also check out a file first by simply downloading the first part, checking off "Keep broken files" in WinRar (or any such option in whatever program you use for extracting), and then play in VLC Player, which will allow you to play a partial or broken file...and then you will know what a leeched download is like and what it actually contains.

2. FORMATS - DVD rips are video files created from an actual studio-released DVD....not from a DVD recording (the source of which can be an old VHS tape, etc.). DVD-R is a complete, full DVD and is usually in many parts and the filesize is around 4gb or so. Neither one is the same as the other...DVD rips are not the same as DVD-R, and vice versa.

3. CATEGORIES - If you know what category your movie post belongs in...choose the right category when making your post, such as DVD rip vs. DVD Leeched, or for that matter, DVD rip vs. VHS rip, etc. Articles which are found to be categorized incorrectly will be re-categorized.

4. QUALITY/PRIORITIES - DVD rips or DVD-R....because of the higher quality...take priority over VHS or tv rips as far as if duplicate posts are found, such as a movie posted in each DVD and VHS categories. Duplicates found in VHS categories, for example, will be deleted...UNLESS there is something known to be radically different about the VHS version, such as a different edit of a movie, special edition never put onto DVD, etc. Both DVD rips and DVD-R of the same movie can be here on the site.

5. IMAGES - Some cover image are either too small to really see anything, or are way too large to the point of going off the right edge of the center column when viewing a post. The maximum width of an image should be no larger than 500dpi....that width fits perfectly into that center column when viewing an article post. Particularly when an entire DVD cover is used as an image, quite often half the image...usually the front of the cover,,,disappears off the edge of the screen. Use an image program such as Photoshop or program of your choice to try and resize an image, if possible, to a maximum width of no more than 500dpi.

6. HOTLINKING - You cannot (and should not) hotlink to an image that is on another website. You have to upload to ImageShack or another image hosting service and link from that. The reason for that is two-fold: It's a drain on that other site/person's bandwidth if an article gets a lot of views here, and it's possible for the bandwidth use to be traced/tracked back here to Horror Haven....and then that can cause all sorts of problems.

7. FOREIGN FILMS - It's also helpful when posting a foreign language film (one that is not in English) to include the English title in the article title when posting....simply because those who are not familiar with an original foreign title might be searching for the English title....and therefore won't find it on the site (unless, of course, they search by IMDB number). At the very least, include the English title (if known) in the description and then that article can be located in search when searching by title.

8. SUBTITLES - Foreign films should have a link to English subtitles when posting....if you know a link for the subs or know that a leeched download includes subs. When posting your article, please indicate in the Subtitles field whether the movie includes subtitles or not, and in what language they are. If there are not any subtitles included....then please put "None" or "N/A" (Not Available), or one of those in the Subtitles field instead of leaving it empty and blank. People would like to know before they download something.
There is also no need to re-up a subtitle file to another host (like MU, RS, etc.) if the subs file is already available on one of the dozens of subtitle sites out there....that's the whole reason they exist in the first place. Just provide the link to where the subtitles are.

Any of these things described here (and I'm sure I've forgotten a couple of things also) which are incorrect, incomplete, or just plain wrong can/will be changed at the discretion of the admins, if need be, to make things easier and a little smoother for those reading an article and/or downloading.

Fangs for your attention.....now take a bite out of some movies!
User Table Crash PLEASE READ
MembersATTENTION!!!

We had the table that stores the users crash. I have no idea why, and I had no idea it could be so bad. The only backup we had was from when the site changed servers. We've had around 200-300 new members since then. All of those new members will need to re-register. I'm really sorry about this guys! But you should be able to use your same member name again, assuming no one else has come along and used it. Now I think I noticed some peoples names showing up wrong, where they're showing up as a different person. If this is the case, please PM (private message) me so I can fix this.

This could create problems for some users like myself who change their name around often. If you find you can't sign in, but were a member before the server change, please try an older variation of your name. If that still won't work, please email us at horrorhavenstaff@gmail.com Make sure you tell us who you are in the message!

Thanks go to Miziphi for once again saving this site! I don't know what I would have done without him! Send him some love everyone ! :D
Regarding Leeched Links, Dead Links, and Posting
NewsSo, I've been going through my posts and replacing/adding MegaUpload links to the articles and mirrors I've posted. I'm sure you've seen the updates in the Shoutbox. I'm at the tail-end of this massive project but, I'm getting very concerned. Since there is no way to click something and view all your posts on one screen, I've been going through the A-Z Article Listing movie by movie, and have noticed something interesting. Please read these three concerns very carfully...

Posting:

There are a couple things EVERYONE needs to do before posting a film on this site: 1) Verify the links are active (Uploaders and Leechers) and 2) Verify that the film you would like to post IS NOT ALREADY POSTED!!!!!!!!!! This is a HUGE problem here. Before you post a film, make DAMN sure it's not already here. Check IMDb for alternative titles and search those too. Any duplicate posts will either not be approved by admin or deleted once found.
While sifting through the films posted so far, I have been deleting posts left and right but, I HAVE been relocating active links to the original and/or more complete postings...while still giving credit to the posters. This is not fun...or easy. In fact, I'm beginning to develop a tumor (thanks a lot Rapidshare!).
So...check yourself before I go postal on you! Bam!

Leeched Links:

There has been some discussion in the past about Leeched Links and their worth on this forum. Although this is not the main focus of this news article, I would like to point out that Leeched Links are not the problem...it's their availability. I have come across too many articles that have had two to three, to even four or five sets of links, which were all dead. This is becoming annoying for not only myself but, the other members of this site who rely on us uploaders and top-posters to provide stable and last-able links.
For those of you who post articles with Leeched Links regularly, please try to keep track of them...if you can. I understand that this can be a project for some people but, we have to try and keep the links alive. If this means finding another set of Leeched Links...cool, as long as they work.
Double-Check check your Leeched Links...then check 'em again before you post 'em!

Dead Links:

Just like the elderly and unfed pets, links die. Even those of us who have been posting for years and have been with one or two file hosters for what seems like forever, links still die. I have found almost 50 posts of my own with dead links. To those of us who are heavy uploaders and/or posters, we all need to step up a smidge and sift through our posts. Check everything you got and then double-check it!

If anyone has any questions, feel free to PM me or any of the other admins. I'm not mad at you guys (and gals :-) but, we all need to start being more thurough and consistent.

Thanks everyone!
rapid news and calculations
NewsHere's the bottom line on the calculations, then I'll write out how I got to these figures.
The current price for a 1 year account is about $75 (euros converted to dollars). With the new pricing structure, the new price of a "rapid medium" account would be about $110 per year (31 cents per day), which is a 50% price increase. But when you consider that you only get 5 GB download traffic per day on a "rapid medium" account, when you used to get 25 GB download traffic per day, you're definitely NOT getting what you used to pay for!
If you want to get a "rapid big" account, which gives you 20 GB download traffic per day, you'll be closer to what you used to get with the 25 GB download traffic per day. But guess what that price comes out to? Around $440 per year ($1.21 per day), which is a price increase of 475% !!!! That's just downright ridiculous!
What about those of us who have already paid for their premium account? They say you will get 20 "rapids" for each paid day you have left. For example, I have 232 paid days left on my account. That gives me 4,640 rapids, which will convert to about $70. That $70 WILL actually get me 232 days of a "rapid medium" plan but only 59 days of a "rapid big" plan. That's all I get for my 232 days paid? Like I said, clearly we are getting screwed big-time.
Another thing they're saying that is pretty misleading is that you can switch your plan daily to fit your needs. But each plan has a different level of storage available. So if you are currently using about 15GB of storage & you've downloaded only 1 GB today, could you use the "rapid small" plan today since it allows 1 GB download traffic? No, because the "rapid small" plan only allows 10 GB storage. What would they do with the other 5 GB of files that you have? Also, the "rapid small" account does not allow folder management. So what would happen to all your folders if you switched from a "rapid medium" to a "rapid small"? The only thing you can really do is try to estimate how much storage & download traffic you need & buy the plan that fits that & just keep it that way. I don't see how it would work to switch your plan daily, at least if you're storing files.
If anyone is still reading & still interested in the math, here's how I got these numbers (and my spreadsheet is attached if anyone wants to see it).
400 rapids = 4.99 euros = $6.18 dollars (at the current exchange rate). That's about 0.0125 euros per rapid and 0.0155 dollars per rapid.
A rapid small plan is 4 rapids per day, which is about 6 cents per day.
A rapid medium plan is 20 rapids per day, which is about 31 cents per day, which is about $110 per year.
A rapid big plan, the closest to what we have been used to, is 78 rapids per day, which is about $1.21 per day, which is about $440 per year. When I last paid for my 1 year account a few months ago, it was $76.70!
The numbers I used to convert my current plan to the new plan:
I have 232 days left on my account & I'll get 20 rapids per day for it, which is 4,640 rapids. At 0.0155 per rapid, that's a credit of about $70. That will buy me 232 days of a rapid medium account at 31 cents per day, which is the same number of days I had before. BUT a rapid medium account only comes with 5 GB download traffic per day, which sucks when I used to get 25 GB per day. Closer to what I originally signed up for is the rapid big account with 20 GB per day, but my $70 credit will only buy me 59 days of a rapid big account at $1.21 per day.
Now the price per rapid does go down a little if you purchase more rapids at a time. But I used the price per rapid that you will get with buying 400 rapids at a time, which is the lowest number of rapids you can buy in a purchase, so it is a little higher than buying more rapids with each purchase. But the overall difference in my calculations was pretty negligible so I just used the price per rapid you'll get for purchasing 400 rapids.

Site Up/Still Needs Work
NewsHey everyone!
As you can see, the site is back up. You should be able to browse the movies just fine. You can also submit movies I suppose, but you'll have to do it the really old fashion way.

The site obviously isn't done, but I figured we might as well open it back up so that movies can still be shared. During the next couple of days, you may get errors on the site, or might not even be able to get to it. This is all because we're still working on getting everything moved over.

Thanks,
HH Staff
